Effective July 1, 2012, the central clearinghouse for the receipt, evaluation, investigation, and
referral of consumer complaints was transferred from the Office of Consumer Affairs within the
Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to the Consumer Protection Section of the
Office of the Attorney General of Virginia. This database includes complaints filed with the Office
of Consumer Affairs prior to July 1, 2012, and complaints filed with the Office of the Attorney General
of Virginia on or after July 1, 2012. The database contains records of open and closed complaints.
However, closed complaints are removed from the database in accordance with established timelines for
destroying public records.
